Phillips Design Auction - New York December 2020


The last Design auction of the year for Phillips will be held in New York on December 9th. An impressive selection of design creations by masters from 20th century.


With a public viewing starting on December 4th, this new auction at Phillips New York presents 157 lots of incredible and iconic design by famous artists of the 20th century.

Lot 34 – Cabinet by Gio Ponti

Beech-veneered wood, beech, birch, painted wood, circa 1937. 95.3 x 139.7 x 52.1 cm.

Interior of cabinet with paper label inscribed in pencil Dr. Giovanni Rovella/Viale Reg. Margherita/14 and other faded text; reverse of cabinet with remnants of paper label.

Together with a certificate of expertise from the Gio Ponti Archives.

Lot 59 - "Branch" coffee table, model no. 5424 by Vladimir Kagan

Walnut, travertine, ca. 1958. 38.7 x 127 x 95.9 cm. Underside of tabletop inscribed KAGAN/HONEin crayon and stamped NEW YORK/ITALY, partially obscured.

Lot 70 - "Orgone Chop Top" coffee table by Marc Newson

designed 1990, produced 2004.

Polished aluminum, painted aluminum, glass. 34 x 160 x 71.1 cm.

Produced by POD Edition, London. Number 3 from the edition of 8 + 2 artist's proofs and 2 prototypes.

Underside impressed MARC NEWSON/POD/POD EDITION, 3 / 8 and 90—04.

Cover embossed with artist's monogram and interior impressed WIENER/WERK/STATTE.

Lot 140 - Centerpiece, model no. S 5178 (S sh 6) by Josef Hoffmann

Centerpiece, model no. S 5178 (S sh 6, ca. 1923). Silver. 15.2 cm high. Executed by the Wiener Werkstätte, Vienna, Austria. Base impressed WW and with Austrian assay mark twice and further impressed WIENER/WERK/STÄTTE, with artist's monogram JH, and with 900 silver mark.
