Design Your Christmas 2022 - Episode 3

#DesignYourChristmas - Season 3… Episode 3. When Christmas rhymes with glass.

Kokomo Carafe and Cups

Upstate is a clothing, textile, and glasswares line, as well as creative studio founded by Kalen Kaminski. Often drawing from the palettes, landscapes and visual cultures encountered in her global travels from locales ranging from Oaxaca, Mexico to Puglia, Italy to the verdant countryside of the Berkshires, Kaminski synthesises these various influences and marries them with her own sensibility creating an aesthetic both time-honoured and completely of the moment. With the same devotion to handmade artistry and celebration of whimsy, entropy, and vivaciousness we bring to our goods this facet of Upstate allows us to dynamically engage in the nexus of fashion, art, food, assemblage, and most importantly communion with our community.

The handblown carafe and glasses in kokomo (made in New York) allude to walking on sand, wind in hair, beach boys on the radio and sun kissed cheeks. The unique abstract colour application ties into our world of colour exploration. Each piece is hand blown and unique, and there will be slight inconsistencies in shape due to the hand blowing process, including bubbles. Hand wash (avoid boiling and microwaves)

Wall Lamp King Sun Murano

Pierre Gonalons is a designer and and interior architect based in Paris. After graduating from Camondo school, he founded his own creative studio and collaborated with prestigious brands such as Lalique, Chloé, Pierre Frey, Nina Ricci, Pernod, Weston... while simultaneously developing his very own limited edition line of products for international galleries. He became the artistic director for the historic Italian design editor Paradisoterrestre and closely collaborates with numerous Italian clients such as Ceramica Bardelli, Masiero... His creations come across as both simple and spectacular dialogues between present and past. He defends a minimalist approach of design imbued with references to pop culture and decorative arts.

The King Sun Murano collection is an original concept of lighting fixtures pairing Pierre’s creativity with the traditional Murano glass techniques, which are reinterpreted by the design studio Stories of Italy. The ancient tradition of Macchia– colour applied to glass – is developed into Macchia su Macchia – the juxtaposition of different layers of colour. The fantastic effect of this new finish is dramatically enhanced by the light. The glass globes are hand-blown in Murano, then cast and reshaped to give them a natural manmade look. King Sun Murano is a spectacular, contemporary tribute to the Italian lighting fixtures of the 1940s produced in Murano. Bespoke colours, dimensions and finishes upon request (lead time 4-5 weeks).
