Design Your Christmas 2022 - Episode 2
#DesignYourChristmas - Season 3… Episode 2: An Ode To Clay.
Molding the Earth into art.
Pineapples
Miriam Frowein and Benni Frowein are siblings-in-law and co-founded of Objekti. They discovered the pines on a trip to Mexico and fell instantly in love with these unique and rare pieces. The pine, a symbol long associated with goodwill, is turned into masterpieces by some of Mexico's most celebrated artisans. These whimsical pieces created out of local clay elaborate details of incision, appliqué and openwork. The appliqué technique is necessary to attain realistic texturing. All of this requires exceptional mastery in clay sculpturing. After the item is sculpted, it is ready to be given a dose of colour. Glazes mixed with copper sulphate and other minerals induce together with multiple firings the brilliant shine to each piece.
Made by hand, this beautiful and bi-colour object looks intriguing on coffee tables, consoles or in book shelves. We recommend pairing it with other pieces of complementing sizes and colours. Handmade in Mexico. Production lead time: 16 – 20 weeks. Bespoke colours upon request. Each creation is unique due to its handmade nature, shapes and shades vary slightly.

Ring Aura
Paola Paronetto is an Italian ceramist. After more than thirty years of personal research and experimentation with numerous ceramic techniques and materials, she decided to focus on paper clay in 2000. This led to the creation of the "Cartocci" collection, a rich series of sculptural objects created through long procedures. In addition to making design objects, Paola also devotes herself to more personal artistic pieces, which are aimed at the modern art market. Her artwork is regularly exhibited at international art and design fairs.
The new collection REFLECTIONS is the result of the encounter between Paola Paronetto's Cartocci and Giovanni Botticelli's work with glass and mirrors, a fusion of distinctive materials developed by their creators, which combine thanks to their aptitude for colour and formal clarity. The outcome of this design synthesis is a series of 3 wall-mounted objects: RING NOVA, RING AURA e NINFEE.
The RING AURA mirror-lamp collection, the result of the combination of Rings made of paper clay, which are opaque, soft and pliant, and Giovanni Botticelli's polychrome, sharp and faceted mirror surfaces, adds a touch of light that adds warmth to any room. Handmade in Italy.

Magodi – Abongile
Zizipho Poswa is a Cape Town-based ceramic artist whose large-scale, hand-coiled sculptures are bold declarations of African womanhood. She is inspired by the daily Xhosa rituals she witnessed as a young girl growing up in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa and the life-sustaining roles that Xhosa women play in traditional and contemporary life. Born in 1979, Poswa studied surface design at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. She draws on this knowledge to amalgamate the visual stimuli she encounters in her daily life into a simplified pattern language. In 2005, she and fellow ceramicist Andile Dyalvane opened their studio, Imiso (meaning “tomorrow”) Ceramics.
Poswa’s work for Southern Guild explores her personal experience and heritage in monumental sculptural pieces. Her first major series paid tribute to the practice of “umthwalo” (load), in which rural women carry heavy bundles of wood, buckets of water or parcels on their heads, often walking long distances on foot.
Her second series, Magodi, looked to the sculptural forms of traditional African hairstyles, such as the Bantu knot and dreadlock, and the central role that hair salons play as a meeting place for women. Each work is named after a family member or close friend, giving vivid, physical form to the artist’s own support network. ‘Abongile’ is a creation of glazed stoneware clay. One-off
