SUN/LEAF by Andrés Reisinger

Andrés Reisinger debuts in the Middle East with SUN/LEAF commissioned by Gallery COLLECTIONAL to be unveiled during Art Dubai.

Gallery COLLECTIONAL, Dubai’s and the Gulf’s first permanent collectible design gallery, has commissioned a renowned digital artist Andrés Reisinger to create an exclusive new exhibition for its space at Eden House, the home of the gallery.

The SUN/LEAF installationReisinger’s first ever public art piece - consists of a digital artwork (named Sun) and its physical counterpart (named Leaf). The digital artwork will consist of a 90 seconds audiovisual loop piece displaying a subtly animated landscape and will be projected onto a led wall placed at the borders of a water feature outside the gallery located at Eden House; the physical artwork, a chromed metal armchair, will be staged in the pond, at contact with water, in front of the led screen. Reisinger has conceived the artwork as one unicum piece, composed of its digital and physical halves; the artist’s intention is to keep them tied forever.

The main inspiration for this piece, is a tree or any kind of plant with leaves; I think it is one of nature’s most iconic symbols because it reflects so many of its aspects. On the other hand, the sun affects everyone and everything on the planet in some manner. Even though it resides millions of kilometres away, its immense energy continues to have an influence on our life

Triggered by impulses of excess and overindulgence, on the one hand, or sustainability and preservation, on the other, Andrés and his team delegate the production of the LEAF chair and all the physical pieces, that are being created within his studio, only to the local artisans: they are carpenters, they are blacksmiths, they are upholsterers and more.

Reisinger’s network of collaborators share the same way of understanding the craft creation, respect for materials and the importance of details. Andrés has a strong belief that analogue craftsmanship will continue to exist and have an enormous value no matter what. And good craftsmen will continue to be of lack.

To Gallery COLLECTIONAL’s creative director Catalina Ruiz Urquiola: “This new commission offers a progressive look at the future of design and the merging of our physical world with the digital experiences. As the leaders in the field, we are championing the cutting-edge new technologies of Web3, foster the ground-breaking new talent and create trailblazing activations that have never been seen before.

The SUN/LEAF exhibition cements our position as the Middle East’s most progressive design destination. We’re the region’s first gallery to commission and feature an exclusive phygital (physical and digital) piece, and to introduce the work of Andrés Reisinger to the region - he’s one of the most sought-after artists of this digital revolution” says Cristiano Baccianti, COLLECTIONAL’s founder.

This year marks the first time Art Dubai includes a digital art programme with a dedicated section. Andrés Reisinger will be participating in a one-to-one conversation with Art Dubai’s digital section curator, at 5pm on the 10th of March.

SUN/LEAF will be unveiled on the 10th of March, during Art Dubai and will be on display to the public between 11-13th of March, 10am to 10pm. Gallery COLLECTIONAL is located at Eden House, 41st St, Al Satwa, Dubai.
