House of Wisdom portfolio of images wins Architizer A+ Awards

The Portfolio of images for the House of Wisdom project was selected as Jury winner of an Architizer+ 2021 award in the Photography + Video Category, in addition to being shortlisted for other awards including the Loop Design Award 2021.

The Images represent the House of Wisdom project, designed by Foster+Partners, in different light scenarios, reflecting how the project appears throughout various moments of the day.

Every room, every space, and every angle has been purposefully designed like rhythmic verses of an eloquent poem. The House of Wisdom extends over 12,000 square meters. The two-story structure features a large floating roof, with cantilevering on all sides of a transparent rectilinear volume. The 15-meter-wide overhang shades the façades throughout most of the day, while aluminium screens are designed to filter the setting sun in the evenings.

Inspired by the original House of Wisdom in Baghdad, it is the modern-day interpretation of a knowledge hub where all can come seeking enrichment.

This smartly designed centre is a model for future libraries that blend traditional and digital sources of knowledge, interactive learning, and contemporary schooling. It is destined to become the setting of important conferences, events, extra-curricular courses, and educational sessions for all ages.

These are but a few of the many offerings that makes the House of Wisdom a destination for all ages and interests. This, in addition to the outdoor garden and event spaces designed to host grand scale cultural and edutainment events, makes the House of Wisdom the grandest contribution to Sharjah's several public offerings where books, knowledge, and cultural enrichment can be easily accessed and enjoyed.

The porfolio was composed by Shoayb Khattab, an International Award-Winning Filmmaker and Photographer living and working in the UAE, where he came to develop his skills in both the photography and videography fields.

After successfully studying art throughout his childhood, which earned him distinction and awards for his drawing skills, Shoayb has transformed his art obsession and passion into a profession which has earned him more than 40+ local and International awards and festival invitations in the fields of photography and filmmaking.
