Marble Weaving by Pili Wu

In Huatung Valley (Taiwan) , there are lots of marble waste generated from stone processing due to the location and the characteristic of the stone industry there. Pilu Wu decided to give them a new span of life.

Because most of the fragmented materials are not able to be used again, Pili Wu got inspired to figure out a new way of reusing the waste effectively, by assembling them into a reusable panel material.

Pili applied waterjet cutting and seamless assembling techniques, which are commonly used in stone processing, to organize the waste with the logic of traditional bamboo weaving . Solid stone is transformed into tender patterns; the marble waste is assembled into a new multipurpose panel material with traditional weaving images on it. Consequently, the waste has a greater chance to be used again.

Marble Weaving is characterised by soft bamboo-weaving pattern, moreover, has the feature of stable marble texture. It connects local industry chain, materials, and colours, to convey the unique texture and culture of marble from Taiwan.
