L'ÉCOLE Middle East presents an exhibition tracing the evolution of men’s rings from symbols of unity to expressions of art and personal style.
For the first time in the Middle East, the extraordinary private collection of the late French collector and antique dealer Yves Gastou will be displayed in Dubai. This expansive exhibition, showcasing over 700 remarkable rings, encapsulates a 40-year journey of passion, and is the collection's largest presentation to date. With themes including History, Gothic, Christian Mysticism, Vanitas, and Eclecticism, the exhibition offers visitors an immersive exploration of Gastou’s unique taste.
The exhibition marks a milestone in the Middle East’s art and design landscape, coinciding with the 10th anniversary of Dubai Design Week (November 5 to 10, 2024).
A Public Open Day will be held on Saturday, November 9, inviting the community to engage with L'ÉCOLE Middle East’s demonstrations, children’s workshops, guided tours, and activities. This event brings together jewelry, art, and design for an unparalleled cultural experience.
Known for his bold approach, Yves Gastou opened his Paris gallery in 1986, becoming an iconic figure with his distinct aesthetic. Among his prized possessions was a collection of men’s rings, not merely kept as rare items but worn as part of his personal style. Gastou’s fascination with rings began in childhood, amassing a collection of over a thousand rings spanning centuries and continents.
From 17th-century Venetian doge rings to 1970s American biker rings, and from ancient Egyptian artifacts to modern-day creations, Gastou’s rings represent symbols of marriage, power, amulets, and statements of individuality.
Following its debut in Paris in 2018 and subsequent showings in Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Shanghai, the collection arrives in Dubai with new pieces added. L’ÉCOLE Middle East, School of Jewelry Arts, proudly presents this collection to the Middle Eastern audience for the first time.
In addition to the exhibition, L’ÉCOLE Middle East has launched new courses, “The Making of a Jewel” and “Discovering the World of Gemstones.” Open to beginners, collectors, and enthusiasts, the school’s curriculum explores jewelry history, gemstones, and craftsmanship. Seats are limited; registration is available on L’ÉCOLE’s website.
Aligned with its mission of empowering youth, L’ÉCOLE Middle East is proud to partner with Dubai Cares. All proceeds from public courses, talks, and conferences will support Dubai Cares' youth education initiatives in developing countries.
