The Falaj Collection by Aljoud Lootah
As part of the inaugural Editions series at Downtown Design and Dubai Design Week, Emirati designer Aljoud Lootah presents her latest collection inspired by the traditional aflaj, an ancient irrigation system unique to the region.
The aflaj channels are rich with history, carrying tales of survival and pride. Their winding paths hold within them the poetry of hands that carved the earth, a rhythm of life that sustains the land. From this intricate legacy, the Falaj Collection by Aljoud Lootah finds its inspiration.
This collection features sofas and tables that reflect the UAE’s lush oases, serving as contemporary tributes. Each piece embodies the organic flow, separations, and reconnections seen in the aflaj channels, combining cultural heritage with modern elegance.
Rooted in the beauty of these traditional irrigation systems, developed under the vision of the late Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the aflaj have nurtured the land for generations. Through them, life has spread across the landscape, allowing it to flourish.
The history and stories surrounding the aflaj, along with the life they foster, are woven into this collection. With a sleek, minimalist design that merges modernity with tradition, the pieces are solidly built yet gracefully curved, evoking the serenity of shaded palm fronds along the water channels. The Falaj Collection embodies our heritage, sharing its legacy through an aesthetic that is both timeless and innovative.
